Tetsunaki no Kirinji 14

Hey,

Here's the new Kirinji, sorry for the delay. In this chapter we revved up our ambitions and started translating even sound effects, which are notoriously hard to convey from Japanese to English, since Japanese use SFX in their daily language.

Thanks to WhITelion for cleaning and typesetting!

"I'm getting a little Kabukichou vibe here..."

So we finally start the new arc, we meet new characters, and it seems it will be one hell of a night for Rinji.

I personally like the "flow" (get it?) of the series. Just as Rinji mastered parlor mahjong in Kabukichou, he is thrown into yet another unfamiliar environment. I found it hilarious how Rinji can't get used to slow paced mahjong while he was waiting for Misawa to deal.

By the way, the rates here are ridiculous! Five times the rate of Kabukichou! This is definitely illegal in Japan, so that's why the parlor is hidden and you need to be introduced. But this is our naive Rinji again "I wonder if this is a parlor that went out of business?", ah Rinji. Iwami won 6000 yen from all with one win. That's around $180 in around 15 minutes. If you would consider the point difference he made with the win into it, it would be $260. Scary.

Also, regarding the Three Monkeys. In the west it is more understood like "The ones who pretend to not see, not hear or not speak evil are part of the problem", however, in Japan, and originally it's meaning is that a clear mind doesn't see, doesn't hear and doesn't speak evil, as in a virtue.

Anyway, we will see what happens next in the next chapter!

Until then!
