Tetsunaki no Kirinji Kabukichou Seiatsu Hen 85

Good evening!

Sorry for the delay, I was sick, bed-bound.

A very special Kirinji chapter to make up for it though! A lot of stuff happens in this one, my thoughts are below.

I hope you enjoy! See you soon!

Play like you've never played before!!

Alright people, we have a "story" chapter here.

I like to call the chapters in Kirinji where no Mahjong is played and we get a lot of exposition, "story" chapters.

We see that Phil is spending time with Omu in the hospital. What is noticeable is that he isn't interested in the super-expensive buggy he wanted to buy with the prize money anymore.

Omu, being a great future mother is satisfied with a fold-able cheap stroller, and Kiriya appears out of nowhere to confirm that's the correct choice.

What's interesting in the dialogue between Rinji and Phil is that Phil changed his whole life outlook now that he is becoming a father and is ready to dedicate himself to it wholly, losing interest in Mahjong.

He says that "once you found something more important" you become weaker, and Rinji ponders about that and isn't sure.

We have to keep in mind that during this series, having something more important than Mahjong in his life actually kept giving Rinji the strength to overcome many of his ordeals.

What the exact difference between Rinji's and Phil's outlook on Mahjong is, I can't tell yet. It's maybe the resolution, as Rinji is playing for his ex-wife's life and Phil just for a buggy.

He didn't wanna check on Hanako, as he says, it could only make him lose concentration during the race... Which is weird, as remembering Hanako helped him win in Raimontei... Well, Rinji knows.

We switch to Tsukiko's place. Capone finds a sleeping Tsukiko, which is similar to a scene from an earlier chapter when Rinji catches her sleeping with Koume. She must really miss her daughter.

Now comes a part which pisses me off. Tsukiko's daughter was called "Tomomi" in an earlier chapter and that's how it's written in the earlier chapter in our release as well.

Now her daughter is "Tomoko". Makes it look like our mistake, but it's the author's.

Same thing with Rinji remembering getting the dog-paw necktie from Koume. In the original it was for new years, here it's for his birthday.

I wish the author would pay more attention to his own work than me :). Whatever, I will just keep translating literally as it's written in the manga, translating the goofs as well.

Now comes a really interesting part.

We learn that Tsukiko actually divorced 2nd Gen. Majin BEFORE the fire incident. All this time I was sure she left him after their daughter's death, but apparently she was aware how dangerous the job of a rep-player can be and left him before.

So their daughter was called by... someone? over to Majin's house and that's how it actually happened.

There are so many questions here, I am quite curious how this backstory will turn out.

Another interesting part is that Koume's "psychic" abilities keep getting reinforced as she is apparently channeling the ghost of their deceased daughter.

"It's not Papa's fault at all."- What does that mean? Who was it on the phone? What happened? Grah, I'm so curious.

Tsukiko regrets dragging Rinji into the world of rep-players, as she hasn't warned him how dangerous it actually is. I agree that Tsukiko was acting selfishly, but she might go through a catharsis and become a good person later on.

The chapter finishes with the amazing news that the top 4 players will be playing on the same table the whole day, the final day.

I'm sure we're into some great Mahjong games folks, until then!
